leaves

Leaves is Ben&Ben’s second digital single, released on March 31, 2017.

The concept of loss or death wasn’t really present in the songwriting process, as the song was inspired by a difficult time in a relationship. The team behind the video thought of framing the song from the perspective of family, and the story developed from that thought. The loss in the family was the cause of the rift between dad and son, and the process of healing and forgiveness between the both of them is the essence of the video.

The story you guys told in your Rappler live jam about another song “Dahilan” comes to mind, how you wrote it with the death of a friend in mind but then it was interpreted in many different ways after (including a wedding video). I guess you can say the same for how the “Leaves” video came to be. Given that, does relatability play a role in your songwriting process?

Yup, we pretty much did the same thing here in “Leaves.” The funny thing though is that when we write songs, we don’t factor in the relatability of the song; it just comes naturally. What we find to be true is that the more personal the song is, the more the universe tends to embrace it and relate to it. This is what worked in “Dahilan,” and what worked here in this song.

to the bone

‘To The Bone’ currently has over 53million streams on Spotify. It broke the record previously held by ‘Lathi’, a collaboration between Indonesian EDM trio Weird Genius and singer Sarah Fajira. The latter lasted six weeks on the chart, debuting in March 2020.

Both songs owe their popularity in part to virality on TikTok. ‘To The Bone’ in particular recently inspired a wave of covers, including a take by celebrity ex-footballer Bambang Pamungkas. ByDaniel Peters

This song is about being so deeply in love with someone—someone they can’t have—and still having overflowing feelings. This song hits home for someone who has had a crush for almost four years. Liking someone is great, but when you reach the point where you want them by your side and you know it cannot happen, it’s sad. You know that you guys will just be friends; that’s all. It’s kind of frustrating knowing you don’t have a chance with that person, but you still like them.

my yellow

Yellow” is a song by the British rock band Coldplay. The band wrote the song and co-produced it with British record producer Ken Nelson for their debut album, Parachutes (2000). The song was recorded in March 2000 and released on 26 June that same year as the second UK single from Parachutes, following “Shiver“, and as the lead single in the United States. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_(Coldplay_song)

Even though the title color (“Yellow”) is used to compare the addressee to the stars, it ultimately serves as a symbol rather than having any specific meaning. And it represents the vocalist’s deep love and appreciation for the addressee.

Furthermore, while metaphors like comparing a person to an astronomical body are commonly used in romantic pieces or whatever, this is not the case in this case.

Yes, Chris Martin and company are speaking to a true love, the kind that makes you want to ‘bleed yourself dry’ for someone. Of course, such feelings are not limited to romance and can, for example, apply to a brother. As a result, Martin has clarified that this piece is not in honor of a specific person – such as a lover – or a specific type of relationship, but rather (based on the vocalist) speaks to true interpersonal love in all types of relationships.

This song will always be a comfort song for me. This song is about helping one another because no matter what challenges and problems arise, there is always someone who will be there for us. Nobody ever said it was an easy way. You can’t win everything, but you can try.

would u lie with me?

Chasing Cars” is a song by Northern Irish-Scottish alternative rock band Snow Patrol. It was released as the second single from their fourth studio album, Eyes Open (2006). It was released on 6 June 2006, in the United States and 24 July 2006, in the United Kingdom.[2] The song gained significant popularity in the US after being featured in the second seasonfinale of the medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, which aired on 15 May 2006.[3]

This song makes me imagine being with someone and having no worries about others—just the two of us. Based on research,  “Chasing Cars” is only mentioned once, on the bridge, where he proclaims, “Let’s waste time, chasing cars around our heads.” The prepositional phrase that follows that statement clarifies that the titular expression is a mental exercise, not a literal one. Gary learned the metaphor of “chasing cars” from his father. To cut a long story short, it represents a futile pursuit. However, Lightbody does not consider this romance to be an act of vanity. Rather, he appears to be saying that he would rather spend time with his sweetheart doing nothing constructive than doing anything else. https://www.songmeaningsandfacts.com/snow-patrols-chasing-cars-lyrics-meaning/

a blue sky is waiting tomorrow

Hi! Today feels like a long day, so I want to share this song with you guys. This song is entitled “Blue Sky” by Hale.

https://i.pinimg.com/564x/a3/0d/8c/a30d8c85ab0c4aafa87ac721d028400d.jpg

The first time I heard this song, I immediately loved it because it cheers the mood up; this song is perfect if you want some comforting words from a song and it pertains to blue skies, and I love blue skies. I could be staring at the sky and doing nothing but watching.

So I love this song because it says that there’s a blue sky waiting for tomorrow. This song tells us that even though we had a bad day today, there’s a blue sky waiting for us, and we should be happy because of it. Also, the blue sky represents our hopes in life.

why don’t we go?

Somewhere Only We Know” is a song composed and performed by English alternative rock band Keane, officially released as the first single from their debut album, Hopes and Fears (2004).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somewhere_Only_We_Know

This song is about something you may have missed in your life. We’re young, and then we blink, and here we are: we’re already becoming adults. When we sit down and reflect on everything we have done, some pieces are missing, and some do not even exist in our minds; all of those things were the most important to us. But nothing lasts when time passes. and you are feeling exhausted. You simply want to take a break, but you have no idea how to do so. Life is typically complicated.

do you like slow rock and indie music?

Well, if yes, you’re on the right website! I’ve got a playlist for you. I personally made this playlist. The songs was by the band Cigarettes After Sex.

CAS is known for its ethereal, limerent, and often dream-like musical style, with lyrics often based on themes of romance and love, as well as Gonzalez’s voice, which has been described as “androgynous.” While marketed as an ambient pop band, Cigarettes After Sex are also considered shoegaze, slowcore, and indie rock.

Since last year, I’ve been a fan of “cas” (cigarettes after sex). Their music is just heaven; you can feel the calmness, the melody they have, and its meaning. I found peace listening to them because it relaxed my mind and made me sad at the same time. I also use their songs when I’m studying; it helps me focus on my lessons.

you’re on your own, kid.

“You’re on your own, kid.” Taylor Swift said this in her song “YOYOWK” on her Midnights album.

This song talks about the hardships that a person faces just to be in their place right now. Many people relate to this song, including myself. It can be about their studies, their love lives, or anything that they experience a lot of just to get there. At the end of the song, it says, “Because there were pages turned and bridges burned, everything you lose is a step you take.” I think this line holds power because it gives me the feeling that if I can’t get this, maybe something better will come to me. The point is, if we take a chance at something and the results aren’t what we expected, we shouldn’t give up. Failing once doesn’t mean we will get the same results. From those failures, we can learn lessons that will help us strive for the good things in our lives.

If you’re going to ask me what my favorite lyrics in this song are, that would be “From splashes to fireplace ashes, I gave my blood, sweat, and tears for this; I hosted parties and starved my body like I’d be saved by a perfect kiss.” This line represents the hardships I’ve been through just to be here. Heads up to those of us who worked hard to achieve our goals in life and padayon!

Are you also a YOYOWK listener? What’s your favorite line?
